  • Terra Cotta
    Baltimore and Ohio Rail Road
Terra Cotta, Washington DC, USA - (30/12/1906)

An excursion train from Frederick to Washington, which was running late was standing in Terra Cotta station picking up passengers. The conditions were foggy when a train of empty stock ran through signals and into the rear of the excursion. Forty-three people were killed.

Many of the railway staff involved in the incident were arrested. As a result, the B & O complained that it could not carry out an investigation as most of its witnesses were in jail!
